Partial differential equations arise in a number of physical problems, such as fluid flow,
heat transfer, solid mechanics and biological processes. These equations often fall into one
of three types. Hyperbolic equations are most commonly associated with advection, and
parabolic equations are most commonly associated with diffusion. Elliptic equations
are most commonly associated with steady-states of either parabolic or hyperbolic problems.
